CAPTA Seeks Nominations and Self-Nominations for 2015 Student Representatives

This spring, CAPTA will hold elections for the two open student representative positions on the CAPTA Executive Board. The elected representatives will serve a term from June 2015 to June 2016. Board members will meet on a monthly or bimonthly basis, as agreed upon by the Board itself.

Student Representatives (two open seats): The elected student representatives will be responsible for providing input to the board and advising them on student-centered issues.  As they are elected by their peers, they will have voting rights on the board. Student representatives will be responsible for reaching out to peer tutors, facilitating partnerships between schools, and maintaining peer tutor and alumni contact lists.  Tasks include:

  • Coordinating bi-monthly CAPTA tutor gatherings,
  • Collecting and managing submissions for and editing tutor-written CAPTA Blog posts of the week
  • Designing and helping distribute promotional materials via the web and in CAPTA schools
  • Corresponding with and planning events with CAPTA  school-based liaisons
  • Others to help further CAPTA projects, such as those associated with the annual conference, the directors’ retreat, and partnerships between CAPTA schools.

Any current peer tutor at a CAPTA-affiliated secondary school writing center is eligible to apply. Student representatives should expect to participate in CAPTA activities approximately 2 hours per week in addition to attending meetings.  Representatives are also expected to communicate with the Board on a regular basis. One year term.

Please consider running for a position or nominating a peer. Serving on the board is a great way to promote the work of writing centers, meet writing center colleagues throughout the region, and gain professional development.

How do I nominate a colleague or tutor?

Before the May 15 deadline, email SLFrenck@fcps.edu the name and email address of the person you would like to nominate. We will take care of the rest.

How do I self-nominate?

Self-nominating is very common, and we encourage it, so don’t be shy. Please read these guidelines and write a brief bio as instructed. Email this bio, as well as the position for which you are running, to SLFrenck@fcps.edu by the May 15 deadline.

Online elections will be held from May 20-May 29.

The new board members will be notified via email by June 1 and officially welcomed at our board meeting on June 9.
