Travel Grants & Registration Waivers

TRAVEL GRANTS

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: SSWCA member schools; director/teacher or university student applicants only

PURPOSE: To support centers in traveling to attend the annual SSWCA conference in-person

AWARD AMOUNT: $250 or $500

APPLICATION DEADLINE for round 1 of travel grants: November 5, 11:59 p.m. EST

CRITERIA:

  • Applying center must be a current SSWCA Member
  • Director/teachers or college/university tutors may apply, but not high school students
  • Priority will be given to first-time SSWCA attendees as well as schools who are traveling with a large number of student tutors and/or from a far distance
  • A  written statement of 250 words:(1) about you, your tutors, your writing or learning center and/or your community; (2) how you, your tutors, your writing or learning center and/or your community will benefit from receiving the grant; (3) the details about how you will use the funds; and (4) how many students you are bringing to the conference.
  • Demonstrate Financial Need (submit basic use of funds)
  • Quality of application

IF AWARDED: Blog post of 300- 500 words may include pictures and/or quotes and should highlight how the grant has benefitted your center, including but not limited to, your reflections on your experiences at the conference. Post can be written by a student leader who attended the conference or center director.

Recipients for round 1 will be notified by December 2.

REGISTRATION WAIVERS

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS: Open to all. Each individual attendee must submit their own registration waiver.

PURPOSE: This grant supports individuals in attending the annual SSWCA conference.

AWARD AMOUNT:  Covers the cost of an individual registration.

  • NOTE: Each individual attendee must submit their own registration waiver.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Monday, January 6, 2025 at 11:59 PM EST.  Registration waivers will be given out prior to conference registration in the form of a discount code to be used on the registration page. Recipients will be notified no later than January 14, 2025, so please wait to register for the conference until you have heard back from us.

CRITERIA:

  • Each school limited to receiving a maximum of 5 waivers 
  • Priority is given to first time attendees and first time applicants
  • Recipient hasn’t already received funds for current school year
  • Written statement of no more than 250 words in the space below telling us: (1) why you would like to attend the SSWCA Conference and what your role will be; (2) what you hope to gain and how you expect to bring it back to your writing center; and (3) what financial circumstances you believe qualify you for this award.
  • Quality of application

IF AWARDED: Option to write a testimonial of experience for blog post or social media.
