Resources

As part of our mission, SSWCA is committed to build community among, promote advocacy for, and support development and sharing of resources for new and existing centers. In that spirit, we continue to collect and publish resources for directors and tutors for best practice. We invite you to explore the pages here under Resources. If you have materials or ideas to share with the SSWCA community, please email admin@sswca.org or consider writing a manuscript for submission to our journal.

SSWCA’s Toolkit: The Toolkit: Writing Center Resources for Middle and High Schools

SSWCA Resource Portal

Starting, Supporting, and Sustaining SSWCs Articles and Books

  • A brief collection of articles and books about secondary writing centers. SSWCA will be publishing a full annotated bibliography of all published secondary writing and learning center texts soon.

Inclusivity, Equity, and Accessibility Statement and Resources

  • SSWCA offers resources for further reading from within the writing center community and beyond. Our intent with the inclusivity, equity, and accessibility statement is to establish SSWCA’s position on writing and peer tutoring centers as inclusive spaces. The statement begins with our explicit position and then offers directors and tutors a series of questions for reflection about their center’s current positions and practices and how they might evolve. This statement is a living document that we will revise as we continue to grow and learn.

Online Tutoring Tools

  • A collection of resources for online tutoring: Video Summary of Round Table Discussions, Link to WLN’s blog with dozens of WC director responses to COVID-19 and Praxis’s issue on Wellbeing in the WC, 8 Steps Tutors Can Use When Doing Asynchronous Online Tutoring, Tips for Training Tutors for Online Clients, and Synchronous Online Tutoring Ideas.

Regional Writing Center Organizations and Other Related Organizations

  • SSWCA promotes connection between all types of writing and learning centers at all levels. While SSWCA is the only writing center organization specific to secondary schools, there are many regional organizations that offer community and support. Plus, these are great ways to make university writing center connections for yourself and your tutors. Use the list to connect with your regional writing center organization or other peer tutoring organizations.
