Meet the New SSWCA Board Members

SSWCA welcomes to its board the following writing and peer tutoring center directors. These passionate and talented individuals join the other volunteers on our board to plan and run all SSWCA events and publications. We thank them for their commitment and contribution to our community!

Brad Campbell: Southwest Representative

Brad serves as Academic Interventionist at White Pine High School in Ely, NV, where he plans to open the school’s first writing center. Brad served as Writing Center Director and Writing Instructor at the University of Mississippi, 2014-2020. He connected writing centers at all levels as Chair of the Mississippi Writing Center Association and as a Southeastern Writing Center Association Board member. Brad is looking forward to forging strong connections with high schools throughout the Southwest. Brad holds a B.A. (English and Psychology) and an M.A. (English). He will complete his Ed.D. (Higher Education) in 2022.


Trish Shine: Website Curator

As the Writing Clinician of Mt. Lebanon High School for 6 years and director of the recently-created Writing Coaches Program (established in 2018), Trish has daily opportunities to remind students that words matter and that mistakes are necessary for progress.  She is proud of the growth of Mt. Lebanon’s program and the public face she has put to it using Google Sites: https://sites.google.com/mtlsd.net/hs-writinglab. Outside of her 21 years in English education, she is a lover of writing, collaboration, visual design, Broadway musicals, lilacs, the Oxford comma, the color teal, London Fog lattes, and organized systems. Trish holds a BA in Literature from John Carroll University, an MA in Literature from Duquesne University, and a Teaching Writing Certificate from Johns Hopkins University.


Katie Sutcliffe: Southeast Regional Representative

Katie Sutcliffe is an educator who believes in giving young people a megaphone to express their ideas. She is currently the director of the Writing Center and Thesis Program at the Episcopal School of Baton Rouge, as well as the co-creator of LAUNCH, Episcopal’s annual TEDx-style student-planned and executed showcase of ideas and projects. Katie holds a Bachelor of Arts in English (Writing) from DePauw University, an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from the University of Pittsburgh and was a 2005 Teach For America corps member. She has taught English and writing courses for middle and high school students, gifted students and even continuing-education adults. She’s passionate about research and writing that have practical implications for understanding and addressing real world challenges.


Deesha Panchal: Tutor Representative

Deesha has been involved in the tutoring community since stepping foot in the classroom. As an academically excelling student, she has made it a priority to assist other students in finding their best academic practices. Deesha is thrilled to take the initiative to design a more student-centered SSWCA and develop a strong marketing/outreach system for the organization. As a director at a youth nonprofit (Georgia Youth Leaders), an ambassador for Peace First, a podcast host, and class president, her expertise in uplifting today’s youth serves as a driving force in connecting with tutors everywhere.
